Destination Montreux
8 days / 7 nights

The town of Montreux nestles in a sheltered Lake Geneva bay, surrounded by vineyards and against the
breathtaking backdrop of snow-covered Alps. Because of the exceptionally mild climate Montreux is called the
capital of the Vaud Riviera. Charlie Chaplin, Freddie Mercury and several other famous people of world-renown lived
and continue to live on the Vaud Riviera. The long, flower-bordered lake promenade which links Vevey and Montreux
going all the way to Chillon Castle is simply asking to be strolled along. Cultural events, such as the Montreux Jazz
Festival, as well as countless excursion options to the mountainous hinterland or on the lake make the city the most
popular holiday destination in southern Switzerland. Many of the houses along the lakeside road, including the
magnificent Fairmont Le Montreux Palace are from the Belle Epoque.

Day 1: Arrival Montreux
After arrival in Montreux check in at your hotel. In the afternoon the long, flower-bordered lake promenade going all the way to Chillon Castle, nowadays a museum, is simply asking to be strolled along. Close your day with a glass of wine at the bar of the famous Fairmont Le Montreux Palace.
Day 2: Excursion to Rochers-de-Naye
A rack-railroad starts from Montreux and continues past forests, meadows and rocks up to Rochers-de-Naye, overcoming a
difference in altitude of 1600m. Once one reaches the top, there is a panoramic view of the Swiss and French Alps. Take a hike before returning to Montreux.
Day 3: Discover Geneva and Lausanne
In the morning train trip to Geneva. The old town is the heart of the city with the shopping and business quarters. Enjoy the
cosmopolitan flair by strolling along the banks of the lake or the River Rhone. For your return trip take a boat and cruise via Lausanne (maybe with a stopover) back to Montreux.
Day 4 Excursion to Zermatt
Through the Rhone valley the train takes you up to the mountain resort of Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn. The car-free village has very well preserved its original character. The Gornergrat cog railway takes you to the summit at 3883 m in altitude and offers a fascinating panoramic view of the Matterhorn and summits of the Swiss, Italy and French Alps.
Day 5: Day trip to Berne – the Swiss capital
Train ride to Berne. Not many cities have managed to retain their historic features quite as successfully as Berne. Watch the famous family of bears frolicking at the Bear Park, discover the Old Town with its covered arcades and have a look at the Houses of Parliament right in the heart of the city.
Day 6: Trip to Gruyere and Broc on board of the Chocolate Train (May – October Mo/Thu/Wed, July/August daily)
Today you will explore the lovely old medieval town of Gruyere with its castle dating back to the 13th century. You will also taste the world famous cheese of Gruyere, well known for its unique flavor, at the local dairy. Next stop is Broc with the famous Maison Cailler chocolate factory of Nestlé. Discover the process of chocolate manufacturing and taste the chocolate after the tour.
Day 7: Excursion to Gstaad
On the narrow-gauge tracks of the Golden Pass Line the train climbs uphill through the vineyards above the town to Gstaad. The centre is the most popular and shortest shopping street in Switzerland and famous destination for international celebrities. The town boasts a wealth of beautiful old houses in chalet style typical of the region waiting to be discovered by you.
Day 8: Departure from Montreux
In the morning check out and return trip home.
