General information

Saas-Fee is a small village in the Saas Valley, located in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. Saas-Fee lies in an idyllic valley surrounded by the highest mountains in the Swiss Alps. Thirteen four-thousand-meter peaks encircle the Valais glacier village of Saas-Fee and its smaller, neighbouring villages of Saas-Balen, Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell lead you visit the glaciers which so close that you can touch, the deep blue sky made visitors feel fresh. No less than 13 four-thousand-metre peaks encircle the village at the foot of the glaciers like a shell and give it its distinctive name "the Pearl of the Alps".

Saas-Balen is an ideal place for rest and relaxation, it is worth seeing an enormous variety of alpine flowers. Saas-Grund is located at the heart of the Saas Valley and offers a wide variety of activities for travelers. Saas-Almagell is the home village of the Olympic champion Pirmin Zurbriggen.

Transportation

 There are 22 lifts in Saas-Fee, including 3 cable cars, 1 funicular railway, 5 gondolas, 2 chairlifts.  Saas-Fee can be reached by car or bus. Travelers can also be reached by train to Brig or Visp and change to the postal buses which run during much of the day half-hourly from Brig and Visp, though none provides a service beyond the bus terminal through the length of the town during the winter. Travelers travelling by car from the north travel via Bern through the Lötschberg tunnel, from the east via the Furka pass and from the south via the Simplon pass. Saas-Fee is a car-free village, travelers can leave their cars in the covered car-park or at the outdoor car-park at the entrance to the village.

 

Activities

Saas-Fee benefits from its elevation and guaranteed snow, with its 22 lifts and 100 km of prepared pistes, the winter ski region of Saas Fee forms the heart of the entire ski region. There is a further ski area in the nearby region of Kreuzboden-Hochsaas above Saas-Grund. Twenty kilometres of winter walking trails and an 8-km-long cross-country ski trail are provided for non-Alpine skiers. Apart from its 350 km-long network of hiking paths, Saas-Fee also has a wide variety of summer activities for all age tourists, such as summer skiing and snowboarding, mountain-biking, mini-golf, pétanque, pit pat, trekking on horseback, scooters, aerobics, climbing sessions for children and sunrise excursions. Saas-Fee is an attractive place in autumn, autumn in Saas-Fee is colorful natural spectacle, travelers can hike until the beginning of November.

Saas-Fee has thus been awarded the “Families Welcome” seal of approval by the Swiss Tourism Federation. Families are welcome in Saas-Fee, it offers attractive activities for children. Children can take part in exciting activities every day and experience real adventures. Climbing lessons for children will teach children how to climb, they will have fun to learn everything about the mountain.

Moonlight hike: experience the fascinating winter landscape of Saas-Fee in the bright moomlight.

Torch light walk: fairytale hike by the light of flaming torches lasts about half an hour, snowshoe enthusiasts can reach the hut within one hour.

Adventure forest: discover the forest via aerial trekking, slide down tyrolean lines and move from tree to tree on suspension bridges, or walk unsteadily across hanging bridges.

Winter hiking: offers 60 kilometers hiking paths at an altitude of 3000 meters.

Cross-country skiing: 32 kilometers of cross-country trails through snow-covered larch forests and along the frozen river Vispa, the 26 km-long Saas Valley trail goes from Saas-Balen (1471 m) via Saas-Bidermatten (1540 m), Saas-Grund (1560 m), Unter den Bodmen (1593 m), Saas-Almagell (1673 m) and Zermeiggern (1705 m) to Eiualp (1871 m).

Shopping

Saas-Fee has many unique shops, most of shops offer friendly and expert advice in several languages. Travelers can buy regional specialities and fresh product from the corner shop, and also shopping in sophisticated boutiques and various sports stores. All shops in Saas-Fee are open until 6.30 pm, from Monday to Saturday.
